If you like watching high school basketball, then this is the weekend for you, with two holiday hoops tournaments and a two-day basketball showcase right in Oak Ridge, Clinton, and Anderson County.
The Don W. Lockard Invitational at Clinton High School begins on Friday at 12:30 p.m., continues Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and concludes on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
In addition to the boys and girls teams from Clinton, squads from Cannon County, Meigs County, Stone Memorial, Claiborne County, Sullivan North, and Knoxvill Central will participate.
Tickets for the Friday session (six games) are $6; tickets for Saturday’s eight-game session are $12, and tickets for the consolation and championship games Sunday are $6. You can also purchase a three-day tournament pass for $20.
The Anderson County Christmas Classic tips off Saturday morning at Anderson County High School and will feature the Mavericks and Lady Mavs along with teams from Campbell County, Union County, Oakdale, William Blount, Oneida, Scott County, Loudon, Bell County (Kentucky), and the Knox Ambassadors. Play continues through Tuesday December 22.
Oak Ridge High School will host teams from Cleveland, Science Hill, and Dobyns-Bennett on Friday and Saturday for the Rick McGill Toyota Classic.
Cleveland’s girls and boys teams will start things off at 3:30 p.m. Friday, with Oak Ridge’s boys and girls battling Dobyns-Bennett at 6:30 and 8 p.m., respectively. At 11 a.m. Saturday, the girls and boys of Cleveland tangle with Dobyns-Bennett, while Oak Ridge will square off with the teams from Science Hill beginning at around 2 p.m.
