Knoxville’s 3rd annual Startup Day is Thursday, November 19, at the Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville. More than 400 attendees participate in the event that highlights East Tennessee as the hub for startups and entrepreneurs, organizers said.
Startup Day has ties to Oak Ridge. Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Tech 2020 are presenting sponsors.
Doors open at 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
New this year, the event will include a pitch competition between seven startups, competing for a $5,000 cash prize, organizers said.
Also, the first Traction Award will be presented to a Startup Day alum that’s made the most progress during the last three years.
Finally, organizers will continue the fireside chats with some of Knoxville’s most successful entrepreneurs and investors and wrap it up with a networking happy hour.
Organizers said one of the pitcher startups, SimPath, combines two proprietary Oak Ridge National Lab technologies.
