Clarksville, the defending state champion, eliminated Hardin Valley from this year’s girls soccer playoffs in a 1-0 win during a Class AAA quarterfinal game in Murfreesboro on Thursday.
Clarksville (22-4) will move on to play the winner of another quarterfinal game between Collierville and Cookeville on Thursday. That semifinal game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.
It’s the end of the season for Hardin Valley (16-4-2). It was their second consecutive trip to the state soccer tournament. Last year, they lost to Ravenwood 4-1 in the first round.
The Lady Wildcats scored on a goal by forward Gybson Roth, her first of the season, at 55:44. She scored from inside 18 feet from the right corner of the box to the top of the goal.
The Lady Hawks had eight shots compared to five for the Lady Wildcats, but Clarksville had three shots on goal compared to two for Hardin Valley. Each goalkeeper, Bridget Sartorelli of Hardin Valley and Melia Correa of Clarksville, had two saves. Hardin Valley had six corner kicks, compared to one for Clarksville.
Forward Gwen Breslin led Hardin Valley with three shots and one on goal. Senior midfielder Gabby Powers had two shots; senior defender Dominique Rowe had one, including one shot on goal; junior forward Paige Hewitt had one; and Sydney Bailey had one.

Hardin Valley was the Region 2 champion this year (a region that includes Oak Ridge), and Clarksville was the Region 5 champion.
