Kids Count 5k is Saturday in Oak Ridge

 

The 2015 Kids Count 5k!, a competitive road race to benefit the Child Advocacy Center of Anderson County, is Saturday in Oak Ridge.

The Child Advocacy Center of Anderson County is a nonprofit agency, and all proceeds will be used to provide services for abused children at the center, a press release said.

The 5k course starts and ends on the far south end of the marina peninsula at 697 Melton Lake Drive in Oak Ridge.

The race starts at 8 a.m. Plan to be there earlier to pick up your packet, or if you are registering that day, the release said. Onsite registration will start at 7 a.m. and close at 7:45 a.m. Packets and registration will be available at the marina pavilion.

Here are the current fees: $25 for adults, and $15 for children and youth to age 18 if registered October 24 through October 31. Race T-shirts are not guaranteed after October 23.

You can join runners at the marina pavilion after the race. Snacks will be available for participants. There will be music to enjoy and relax, and awards will be presented at 9:30 a.m., the press release said.

There will be awards for the male and female top three overall; first masters (40+); first grandmasters (50+); and three deep age divisions 12 and under; 13-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; and 70-plus.

“Can’t run? Please register to walk,” organizers said. But see above information on fees. “This will help us help the children and you will get a T-shirt,” the press release said. Or, wear a Halloween costume and walk free.

“Donations welcome!” the press release said. “Help a child! We hope to see you there!”
