Capt. Penny Baker, a 32-year-veteran of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, has retired.
Baker started her career at the department as a dispatcher in 1980. She served as a patrol deputy from 1982 until 1985, when she was assigned to criminal investigations as a detective, a press release said.
Baker was a founding member of the county-wide Child Protective Investigative Team and helped form the Children’s Advocacy Center, the release said.
While serving as an investigator, Penny was promoted to sergeant in 1986, lieutenant in 1995, and captain in 1998. Her last assignment was as operations captain from 2007 until her retirement.
“Penny’s many years of experience have been invaluable to the department,” the release said.
Baker attended the University of Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State University and received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1979.
