The new owner and operator of Curves, a fitness center for women in Oak Ridge, will discuss her previous work as a cross-country truck driver during an Altrusa meeting on Wednesday.
Josee Paquin Tousignant will discuss “what entices a woman to choose a cross-country truck driving job,” a press release said.
The Altrusa of Oak Ridge meeting is at lunchtime Wednesday at the DoubleTree Hotel.
Tousignant is a French-Canadian woman from a small town northwest from Montreal, a press release said. She comes from a family of four siblings: two girls and two boys, all of whom became truck drivers at some point in their lives.
Tousignant became a truck driver in 1999 and enjoyed living on the road. She met her husband-to-be at a truck stop in February 2006 and moved to Tennessee in December 2007.
Continuing to drive trucks part time, she worked on improving her English after joining St. Marys Church in Oak Ridge.
Speaking English fluently now, with a strong French accent, Josee is completely off the road, the press release said.
She is now the new owner and operator of Curves, a popular ladies fitness center in Oak Ridge, the release said.
Altrusa International is a service organization whose members focus on leadership, partnership, and service with an emphasis on literacy education and providing educational scholarships. Altrusa supports local nonprofit programs including ADFAC School Supply Program, Partner in Education with the Oak Ridge Schools Preschool, and Girls Inc. In Her Shoes program.
Meetings are held in the salons of the Oak Ridge Doubletree Hotel. Reservations are required.  Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. with a $14 buffet starting at 11:45. A short business meeting and program start promptly at noon.
