Jesse Arous Lewis, age 97, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully Aug. 1.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lewis, and infant daughter, Anita Sharon Lewis; brothers Doyle, Deloy, Carl, Frank, and Lonzie Lewis; and sisters Bonnie Williford, Lizzie Allen, Lola Porter, and Bertha Davis.

He is survived by a brother, Jack Lewis, and a sister, Anna V Smith; daughter Brenda Avera; sons Gerald (Jerry) and David; grandsons David Lewis Jr, Andrew (Andy) Lewis, and Doug Lewis; granddaughters Pam Abell, Jennifer Diffley; great-grandsons Chandler Lee, Jesse David Lewis; great-grandaughters Abbey Slocumb, Micah Diffley, and Audrey and Autumn Lewis; special friends Jewell Tindell and Ann Berkley; and many very special nieces and nephews.

A special thank you is extended to Dr. David Seay, MD, and Dr. William Dallas, MD, for their service and kindness during the many years of care.

As a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Jesse was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and deacon. He retired as a machining supervisor from the Y-12 Plant in 1972 and has pursued his interests in gardening, fishing, and wood-working even into this past spring. His philosophy in life was very simple: putting God and family first, and enjoying the outdoors.

Family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 3, at Calvary Baptist Church on North Jefferson Circle from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with funeral service following at 7 p.m. with Dr. Steve McDonald and Fred Williams officiating.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, Central Standard Time at Good Hope Cemetery in Livingston, Tenn.
