Oak Ridge beat Jefferson County 3-1 in the Science Hill Invitational on Friday night, and the Lady Wildcats soccer team will play George Rogers Clark High School of Winchester, Kentucky, at 2:15 p.m. today (Saturday, September 5).
Scoring for the Lady Wildcats on Friday were senior forward Macy Barclay, senior defender Katie Welsh, and freshman forward Valerie Carter, Oak Ridge Coach Jeff Trombly said.
The Lady Wildcats were up 2-0 at halftime, but Jefferson County scored about five minutes into the second half, making it a game, Trombly said.
“It was very, very competitive,” he said.
Carter scored near the end of the game, giving Oak Ridge, which has had five shutouts this season, a two-point lead, Trombly said.
He said George Rogers Clark defeated Science Hill, which has a dozen seniors, on Friday. Those two teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and went to a penalty tiebreaker. George Rogers Clark won 3-2.
Trombly said Oak Ridge will have one more game after this afternoon’s match. If the Lady Wildcats beat George Rogers Clark, they’ll play at 9:15 p.m. If they lose, they’ll play at 7:30 p.m.
