The Oak Ridge Community Band will perform its last outdoor concert of the summer at A.K. Bissell Park next Monday.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. Monday, September 7. There is no admission fee, and the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor seating, a press release said. Cool refreshments will be available.
“Attendance at the Community Band’s concerts this summer has been large due to outstanding programs, and the band directed by Dale Pendley and assistant conductor Lisa Michaels have still another excellent performance planned for Monday evening featuring as special guests the Dixieland Band, the Community Band Choir, vocalist Deidre Ford, and former mayor Tom Beehan, who has been narrator at the previous summer concerts and will once again appear in this role for the Labor Day program,” a press release said.
The Community Band likes to perform a variety of musical selections, and Monday evening’s audience will enjoy vocalist Deidre Ford singing two Gershwin numbers and the Dixieland Band with soloists Ron Battle on trombone, Morrie Bowden on tenor saxophone, Tim Ford on trumpet, Sandy Hirschman on clarinet, Cindy Redd on percussion, and Joe Williams on tuba will be performing a toe-tapping “Original Dixieland Concerto.”
The Community Band Choir will perform Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” singing the beautiful lyrics to “Summertime,” “I Got Plenty of Nuttin’,” and “Bess, You Is My Woman.” They will also be singing the “Star Spangled Banner” and ending the concert program with Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
In addition to the concert program, there will be announcements about the Community Band’s indoor concert subscription season which begins in October and ends in April.
