A three-vehicle crash with injuries was reported on South Illinois Avenue near Centrifuge Way on Monday afternoon.
One vehicle was upside down, resting on its roof, and one person was reportedly flown by a UT Lifestar medical helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were involved, how many were injured, or how many others were taken to the hospital.
The crash was just down the hill toward Oak Ridge from the Centrifuge Way overpass.
South Illinois Avenue was closed for almost three hours between Union Valley Road and Scarboro Road and Lafayette Drive while the crash was investigated. Traffic was detoured down alternate streets, including Lafayette Drive, Emory Valley Road, Edgemoor Road, Scarboro Road, and Union Valley Road, leading to miles-long backups on some streets.
The crash was reported at about 3:24 p.m. South Illinois Avenue was re-opened at about 6:08 p.m.
More information will be added as it becomes available.

I am a State Farm Insurance Agent in Oak Ridge , Tn. ( Wallie Culbreth) and I Have A lot of Emergency Training and am Used To Emergencies and Wrecks Everyday in My Line of Work! I Was Right Behind This Wreck on Illinois Avenue on 8/24/15 . “IF NOT” For The IMMEDIATE ACTION OF ALL the “Oak Ridge Emergency Personnel” , This Accident and The End Results and Further Potential Dangers , Could Have Been MUCH MUCH WORSE!! The POLICE Arrived First, And They Correctly and Quickly Accessed The Situation And Acted , They Immediately Began Medical Care and Also a Began Hugely Important Action ; That Prevented Additional Accidents that Would have Surely Happened, If The Police Officers Had Not acted Quickly!! This Accident Occurred in a Very Bad Spot , it was in a Curve At The Rise in The Hill, just after the Boeing Rd. Bridge. The Fire Department and Medical Units Jumped in, Right father The Police and Their Quality Care is What Reduced Potentially Even Worse Injuries To Wreck Victims. I am Pleased and Proud To have Such Quality in All 3 Oak Ridge City Emergency units , That Showed up( Police, Fire, Medical). Honestly, My Dear Neighbors in Oak Ridge ; This Could Have Been much Worse Without Oak Ridge City’s Such Highly Trained Units in All 3 Emergency Units Involved. Consider Ourselves Blessed For The Quality of City Emergency Units We Have Protecting Us!! Thank You Oak Ridge POLICE, FIRE, MEDICAL UNITS FOR YOUR TRAINING EXPERTISE AND QUICK RESPONSE FOR EVERY TIME YOUR CALLED UPON !! Wallie Culbreth
