Runners, get ready for a new and unique race on Saturday in Knoxville.

Runners in the Ace Your Pace 5K must guess their time, and race without wearing a watch, according to a press release from Girls on the Run of Greater Knoxville. All proceeds for this race will benefit this nonprofit organization.

The three runners who finish closest to their goal times have a chance to win prizes such as massages and free workout classes. There will also be free giveaways and a post-race celebration in the parking lot, the release said.

The race starts at 8:30 a.m. in the ACE Hardware parking lot in Bearden and registration begins at 7. Participants can pre-register at www.mindbodykinetics.com. for $15. Registration on race day is $25.

GOTR is a program for girls in third through eighth grades whose mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The proceeds will be used to fund scholarships for girls this fall, the release said.

“Girls on the Run of Greater Knoxville provides around 300 scholarships per year,” said Erin Strance, GOTR executive director. “Our goal is to reach out to more locations to give girls the opportunity to participate. The program is designed to help develop girls’ self-confidence and give them a forum to discuss ideas and celebrate their uniqueness and the uniqueness of girls around them.”

GOTR involves a 10-week learning program led by certified instructors who combine training for a 5K run/walk event with a psychology-based curriculum designed to teach specific social and character development skills. Participants gain a better understanding of conflict resolution, making healthy decisions and maintaining a positive attitude as well as building healthy relationships, the release said.

Since 2005, the program has made an impact on about 2,500 girls in five counties including Knox, Anderson, Blount, Loudon, and Sevier, the release said.
