Wanda Crowe, anesthesia tech in the Surgery department at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, has been named the 2014 MMCer of the Year.

Hospital employees cast their votes for MMCer of the Year among the candidates who received MMCer of the Month during 2014, and Crowe, who was named MMCer of the Month in October, received the greatest number of votes to earn this special distinction.

As an anesthesia tech, Crowe’s duties include transporting patients for surgery, maintaining a clean environment for the operating rooms and assisting her coworkers with a variety of tasks to ensure a high quality of care for all patients. Crowe has been with Methodist since 1995.

Crowe is described by Beth Russell, nurse manager in Surgery, as dependable and knowledgeable. Russell adds, “She always treats patients, families, doctors, and her coworkers with respect.”

The person who nominated Crowe says, “She wants to make sure every patient receives excellent care.”

The nomination describes how Crowe is focused on providing patients with a safe environment and is concerned about and promotes the “what ifs” for patient care.

Russell notes that Crowe is committed to her work, and the nomination says that she is always willing to lend a helping hand.

The nomination adds “She goes up to and beyond the call of duty, without question.”

In addition to caring for her patients, Crowe takes special care of the families by making sure they are informed and up-to-date and she takes their concerns to heart.

The nomination concludes, “She can work circles around younger staff and is always ready for the next duty.”

Upon receiving the MMCer of the Year award, Crowe expressed her heart-felt gratitude for the award. She commented that receiving the award meant a lot and that she was honored to be chosen by her co-workers and members of the hospital staff.

Crowe lives in Oliver Springs with her husband Allen. They have two grown children: David Crowe Jr., a school teacher at Clinton High School and pastor at Carroll Hollow Baptist Church; and Eva Robbins, a teacher at Oliver Springs High School.

Crowe also has five grandchildren: Jackson Cade Crowe, Hannah Beth Robbins, Emma Grace Robbins, Jonah Robbins, and Ivy Fritts.

She is a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, where her husband is pastor.

In her spare time, Crowe enjoys camping, sewing, spending time with her family, and her grandchildren, and helping with the church youth group.
