Norma D. Smith McAlister, age 51, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, November 27, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mrs. McAlister was born July 19, 1963, in Oak Ridge. She grew up and lived in Oliver Springs most of her life. She has also lived in Knoxville and Oak Ridge.
Norma owned and operated a residential cleaning service. She attended Community Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.
She loved spending time with her family, and her hobbies included reading and studying forensic science.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Smith and Mary Gallagher Smith; by a brother, Randy D. Smith; by a sister-in-law, Belinda McAlister; and by several aunts, uncles, and by a special pet, “JoJo.”
Norma is survived by her husband, Michael T. McAlister of Oak Ridge: by daughters, Ashley Brenner and fiance’e Todd Coning of Knoxville, and Lindsay Brenner of Knoxville; by a step-daughter, Tina Fowler and husband Andrew, of Lakeland, Florida; by grandchildren, Alyssa Brenner and Charles Randall Brenner; and by step-grandchildren, Natalie and Jackson Fowler.
She is also survived by sisters, Connie Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, and Tammy Matthews of Oliver Springs; by a brother-in-law, Robert McAlister and wife Lori, of Oak Ridge; by Michael Johnson of Oliver Springs, who was considered as a close father figure; and by several nieces and nephews including Eran McCarter, Ryan McCarter, Vanessa McCarter and Gabriel McCarter, Christian Smith, Kayleigh McCarter, Isabelle Smith, Aiden Davis, and Jennifer Arquette and husband Troy.
A gathering of friends and memorial service will be held Friday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. Sharp Funeral Home is serving the McAlister family and an online guest book is available at www.sharpfh.com.
