Four children and one adult were taken to the hospital after a car accident Wednesday morning at the intersection of Oak Ridge Turnpike and Lafayette Drive.

The accident happened just before 8 a.m. Wednesday when a car driven by Jessica Nicole Sessoms of Oak Ridge allegedly ran a red light and hit a car driven by Melissa D. Carlisle, an accident report said.

Carlisle and four children in Sessoms’ car were taken to Methodist Medical Center with injuries or possible injuries, the report said. The children range in age from one year old to 12.

Sessoms was driving east on Oak Ridge Turnpike when she hit Carlisle, who was in a westbound left turn lane, waiting to turn left onto Lafayette Drive, the report said.

It said Carlisle entered the intersection on a yellow light, but Sessoms entered it on a red.

The report said Sessoms was cited for red-light and seat-belt violations, and violations of the financial responsibility and child restraint laws.

Darn, the red light cameras were unable to prevent it.
