James Franklin ‘Jim’ Taylor

James Franklin “Jim” Taylor, age 73, a resident of Cleveland and formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away early Wednesday morning at the family residence.

Mr. Taylor was the son of the late Myrtle Louise Wilson Taylor and Joseph Newton Taylor.

His daughter, Amber Marie Taylor; his son, Martin Joseph Taylor; and his brothers, Joe, George, and Ed Taylor also preceded him in death.

Mr. Taylor was employed with the Martin Marietta Corporation in Cape Canaveral, Fla. He worked on all of the Apollo Space Missions.

He moved to Oak Ridge and continued his service with Martin Marietta, working at the Y-12 nuclear facility. He retired with over 30 years of service with Martin Marietta.

While living in Oak Ridge, he was a member of the Heritage Fellowship Church. He has been a resident of Cleveland for the past four years, and he was a member of the Westmore Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia “Pat” Taylor of Cleveland; his daughter, Tammy Taylor, also of Cleveland; his son, Wayne Taylor and his wife Debi of Lawrenceville, Ga.; his grandchildren, Justin Bunch, Kevin Bunch and his wife Marissa, all of Cleveland, and Devin Taylor of Lawrenceville, Ga.; his great grandchildren, Ella Rose Bunch and Marley Ann Bunch; his sisters, Aletha Braunns of Orlando, Fla., and Nelma Woolf of Dona Vista, Fla.; his brothers, Jack Taylor and his wife Bertha of Tampa, Fla., and Bill Taylor of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life Service was conducted on Saturday, July 7, at 1 p.m. from the Heritage Fellowship Church in Oak Ridge, with Dr. Fred Garmon, Dr. Paul Metler, and Reverend Wendell Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens with Wayne and Devin Taylor, Kevin and Justin Bunch, Josh Wheeler, and Robert Tomlinson serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 11 until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Heritage Fellowship Church in Oak Ridge.

Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
