Cadre5 wins Small Business Subcontractor of Year award

 

KNOXVILLE—Cadre5, a software engineering firm specializing in custom software development, was recently presented with the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2014 Small Business Subcontractor of the Year Award for Region 4, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Cadre5 was nominated by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where it has worked on more than 20 projects that met or exceeded its cost and schedule performance goals.

Tennessee District Director Walter Perry and Procurement Center Representative Gina Holman of the Area III Office of Government Contracting, on behalf of Carol Thompson, Area III director, presented Cadre5 with the award at the East Tennessee Economic Council board meeting this month.

“Cadre5 is an outstanding example of how this Tennessee small business community can meet national laboratory mission needs and those of private industry,” Thompson said. “It speaks well of their strong performance in government contracting opportunities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which has enabled growth in their business and creation of jobs in Tennessee.”

Two of the company’s most notable projects at ORNL include its development of SensorNet, a set of command and control systems that help secure sea ports, weigh stations, and public events by monitoring for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats, as well as its creation of the state-of-the-art program management information system—G2, which helps the National Nuclear Security Administration manage its infrastructure and operations and its Global Threat Reduction Initiative. The GTRI is designed to prevent the acquisition of nuclear and radiological materials for use in weapons of mass destruction and other acts of terrorism.

Cadre5’s leadership in the custom software industry began in 1999 when they designed the hardware sensor system for an Advanced Truck Stop Electrification System for a company called IdleAire, a press release said. It has continued to expand its expertise with customized projects for organizations including Delta Airlines, Siemens, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, CVS, the U.S. Army, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Transportation, Time-Warner, Coca-Cola, Scripps Networks Interactive, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Navy, the University of Tennessee, and many others.

The company’s unique approach to its work, costs and relationship-building has garnered it several awards for outstanding service, technology and expertise, the press release said. Cadre5 was awarded the ORNL 2014 Small Business Impact Award, for the tremendous contribution to the success of an ORNL customer, the release said. Accolades continued with the Distinguished Project Award from the Project Management Institute for Cadre5’s work on G2 and their use of agile project management techniques that were used to help the NNSA focus on collaboration with customers, timely response to change and delivering significant business value quickly. The company also received the Denso Spirit Award in 2011 in recognition of outstanding effort on Denso manufacturing projects, as well as the Navigation Award in 2007 from the East Tennessee Economic Council for its work on SNAPS (Sensor Network Area Protection System), a one-of-a-kind mobile, anti-terrorism unit that allows its users to receive advance warning in the event of a chemical, biological, or nuclear event.

The SBA’s Small Business Subcontractor of the Year award is presented to a small business based on its management, exceptional results and special achievements, cost performance, increase in government sales, current and past financial performance, innovativeness of products/services offered exceptional results, and/or delivery performance.
