Construction work on the historic Alexander Inn, which is being converted from a hotel to an assisted living center, could be complete later this year.

Rick Dover, general manager of Family Pride Corporation, will be the guest speaker for the Altrusa International meeting on Wednesday, September 24. Dover, an ardent historic preservationist, has acquired and revamped numerous properties in the Knox County, including an abandoned 1930s hospital and a handful of buildings in downtown Loudon, a press release said.
The Alexander Inn of Oak Ridge, which is “near and dear” to many of us, is presently being renovated. It is scheduled to open this year, as the Alexander Inn Guest House. Dover will share his story of the long, involved process of obtaining and renovating the property, keeping in mind the historical value and creating a desirable and pleasant senior living community. Family Pride Corporation is known for its extensive reuse of existing buildings to create remarkable senior living centers. Dover made the decision to focus on independent senior living versus traditional residential development after personally experiencing the struggle that families go through to find suitable care for their loved ones. Family Pride Corporation is a family-owned and operated company dedicated to preserving the heritage of the community and being good stewards through the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable building methods. The $5.3 million Family Pride project will see the Alexander Inn converted into a 60-room assisted living facility for seniors this year and will be managed by the Senior Solutions Management Group.

Registration on Wednesday begins at 11:30 a.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel on South Illinois Avenue, and lunch buffet starts at 11:45 a.m., followed by a short business meeting and then Dover’s presentation on the renovations. Visitors with a reservation are welcome to attend. Guests may request a reservation by sending an email to altrusareservations@gmail.com by Monday, September 22. The lunch costs $13.
