“Historic Preservation Award” for the Alexander Inn restoration – September 18

Rick Dover and Family Pride will be awarded the “Historic Preservation Award” for the restoration of the Alexander Inn at 12:30pm on Thursday.  The award presentation will be held at the front door of the Guest House/Alexander Inn.  Dover stated that they were going to faithfully restore the building to its original look, from the soda-fountain bar in the lobby to the beautiful wide porch out front!

Music at the Crossroads:  An Evening with Mark O’Connor – September 20

Goodbye to Summer – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – September 20

Ride Times:  11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm

6th Annual Taste of Oak Ridge – September 20

Location:  New Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church – 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  4:00pm – 10:00pm

Please join us for an evening of music, food and fun to benefit the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge.  Vendors will include:  Birdwell Catering, The Soup Kitchen, Razzleberry Lab, Gondolier, The Other One and more!  Music lineup will be:  The Mighty House Band,Namoli Brennet, The Sorta Singers, Black Oak Brass Quintet, and musicians from the First Presbyterian Church Coffee House.  The MC for the evening will be Bill Moore.

Dinner Train – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – September 20

Dinner Train Ride begins at 6:00pm

This train ride gives you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed by travelers during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s.  Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947.  On the “dinner train ride”, a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Andras will be served.  Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.  Call for ticket prices at 865-241-2140 and visit the website at www.southernappalachia.railway.museum.

Election Selection Candidate Event – September 30

Sarah, Plain and Tall – Oak Ridge Playhouse – October 4-5

Tennessee State Senator Ken Yager to speak at Chamber’s Rise & Shine Event – October 9

Location:  AT&T office – 1291 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  8:00am – 9:00am

A Passion for Service – Customer Service Workshop – October 9

5 County Norris Lake Clean-up – September 27

Norris Lake is one of East Tennessee’s most loved recreation destinations, but the garbage that is constantly dumped in the lake is causing an eye sore, therefore, the five counties that contain Norris Lake have banned together to clean up the problem.  Volunteers from Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger and Union counties are needed.  For more information on where to meet for clean-up and how you can volunteer to help, call 1-800-524-3602 or visit www.lakenorris.org.

 

Clinch River Antique Festival – October 10-11

Location:  Historic Downtown Clinton

The Festival will kick off with a “Kick-off Party” on Friday, 10/10 from 6pm-9pm.  Market Street antique and specialty stores will be open and there will be entertainment and food.  On Saturday, 10/11 from 9am to 5pm, more than 80 antique dealers and artisans will line Market and Cullom Streets.  There is free admission and parking.  For more information, call 865-457-2559 or visitwww.clinchriverfallfestival.com.

 

Tennessee Fall Homecoming – Museum of Appalachia – October 10-12

Location:  Museum of Appalachia

The three-day Homecoming is one of the nation’s largest and most authentic music and folk festivals.  Each day, musicians perform on five stages, filling the air with traditional mountain, folk, bluegrass, Gospel, and old-time country tunes.  The weekend includes demonstrations of pioneer skills, a large craft fair with authentic Appalachian artisans, and traditional Southern foods.  For more information, call 865-494-7680 or visit www.museumofappalachia.org.

 

Fall Color Trips – Norris Lake – October 13-26

Join us as we venture along the shores of Norris Lake on a pontoon boat ride and view the beautiful display of nature’s artistry.  Each boat ride will last approximately one hour and will depart from the Norris Dam Marina.  Park Rangers will narrate our trip with tree identification and park history.  The daily trips will depart at 11am, 12:30pm, 2pm, and 3:30pm each day.  The cost is $7 for adults and $5.00 for children under six.  Trips will be canceled for inclement weather. ORAU has raised more than $1 million over the past 10 years through this campaign. A total of $126,839 was pledged during the 2024 ORAU Annual Giving Campaign. Employees donate via payroll deduction and could earmark their donation for United Way, Community Shares or both. “ORAU has remained a strong pillar in the community for more than 75 years, and we encourage our employees to consider participating in our annual giving campaign each year to help our less fortunate neighbors in need,” said ORAU President and CEO Andy Page. “Each one of our employees has the power to positively impact the lives of those who need help in the communities where we do business across the country and demonstrate the ORAU way – taking care of each other.” ORAU, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, provides science, health and workforce solutions that address national priorities and serve the public interest.
