Obituary: Florence Bernice Cox

Florence Bernice Cox, age 84, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Monday, July 28, at Briarcliff Health Care Center, in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Cox was born February 21, 1930, in Roane County. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and growing both vegetables and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Gilmore and Minnie Cheeks Gilmore; by her husbands, Winfred Shoopman and Albert L. Cox; by a stepdaughter, Elessa Hatfield; by a grandson, Michael Brown; by great-grandchildren, Gage, Jackson, and Grayson Brown; by sisters, Mae Hobbs, Betty Sue Burris, and Stella Rose; by brothers, Bob Gilmore, Virgil Neeley, and Lawrence Neeley; and by a son-in-law, Billy Edmonds.

Mrs. Cox is survived by sons, Charles Kenneth Shoopman and wife Brenda of Clinton, and Wimp Shoopman and wife Kathy of Clinton; by daughters, Linda Edwards, and Sandy Brown and husband Vince, all of Oliver Springs; by grandchildren, Kenny, Kelli and Amanda Shoopman, Billy Edwards Jr., and Josh Brown; and by great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kailey, and Benji.

She is also survived by stepchildren, Elaine Melton and husband Steve of Oliver Springs, and Mary Margaret Clowers and husband Butch of Morgan County; a step-son-in-law, Pete Hatfield; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends.

A private family viewing will be held Thursday, July 31, between 1 and 2 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. A private funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eddie Neeley officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
