Obituary: Wanell Johnson Webber Bland

Wanell Johnson Webber Bland, age 87, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Methodist Medical Center, in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Bland was born December 14, 1926, in Coalfield, Tenn. She continued living in Coalfield until her move to Oak Ridge, at the age of 20.

Wanell was a retired cosmetic specialist who began her employment at Loveman’s in Jackson Square. She continued her profession until her retirement, from Belk’s in Oak Ridge, at the age of 79.

Mrs. Bland enjoyed taking care of her family, flower gardening, sewing, quilting, and collecting china.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Clarence “Red” Webber and Luther Ray Bland; by her parents, Jefferson May and Druzilla Ritchie May; by a stepson, Michael Webber; by sisters, Opal Liles and Maudine Brooks; and by brothers, Hoyal, Jeff, Kenneth, and Jerry May.

She is survived by her children, Lonald R. Johnson and wife Beth of Hendersonville, Donald E. Johnson and wife Leah of Oak Ridge, Claudia Castleberry and husband Wayne of Kingston, Pat Webber and wife Cathy of Powell, John R. Webber and wife Delene of Strawberry Plains, and Carmen J. Jones and husband Chuck of Rockwood.

She is also survived by a sister, Norma Jean Graves and husband William of Fontana, Calif.; by a brother, Archer May and wife Dorothy of Deer Lodge; by a sister-in-law, Sally May of Oliver Springs; and by 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends.

The family received friends Friday, June 13, 2014, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Donald E. Johnson officiating. Burial and graveside services were held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
