Secret City Festival – June 13

Location:  A.K. Bissell Park – 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  Festival opens at 11:00am

Secret City Festival – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – June 13

June 13 – Secret City Festival – 1pm, and 3pm

This train ride gives you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed by travelers during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s.  Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947.  Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.  Call for ticket prices and departure times at 865-241-2140 and visit the website at www.southernappalachia.railway.museum.

 

“Nikon Small World” – American Museum of Science and Energy – Begins June 13

Location:  American Museum of Science and Energy

Clinton Engineer Works (CEW) Real Estate Maps Exhibit – Begins June 13

Location:  American Museum of Science and Energy.  AMSE Lobby.

CEW Real Estate Maps detail the property boundaries before acquisition by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  The exhibit consists of 13 maps, one index map, and maps of segments A-K and O.  An indexed listing of landowners associated with the properties is also available.  This exhibit goes through September 1, 2014.  For more information, visitwww.amse.org.

Location:  Adjacent to Historic Jackson Square (East Tennessee Avenue, Oak Ridge).  Time:  8:00am – Noon

 

Saturday Tennis – Oak Ridge Tennis Club – Every Saturday

Location:  Jackson Square Tennis Courts – Broadway Avenue, Oak Ridge

Disc Golf:  Random Draw Doubles – Every Tuesday

Location:  Carl Yearwood Disc Golf Course – Bus Terminal Road, Oak Ridge

ONGOING EVENTS:

DOE Facilities Bus Tour – thru August 29

Location:  This bus tour will depart from the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) – 300 South Tulane Avenue.

This tour is free with paid admission to AMSE.  Dates:  Monday-Friday from June 2 thru August 29.

Ninja 5K Race to Support the Wounded Warriors Project and Oak Ridge Graduation Celebration – June 28

Location:  Horizon Center in Oak Ridge – Novus Drive, Oak Ridge.

The Ninja 5K is a 3.1 mile race or walk.  The race course is very flat and accessible for all ages and abilities.  The race will be timed, but both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate.  Check-in on race day at 5:00-6:45pm.  Race will begin at 7:00pm.  Race will conclude at 8:00pm.  There will be Martial Arts Demonstrations at 6:00pm.  You can register early on Friday June 27^th from 11:00am-7:00pm at the Horizon Center.  For more information or to register online, visit http://www.ninja5k.com/.

 

Oak Ridge Community Band Independence Day Concert – July 4

Location:  A.K. Bissell Park – 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  7:30pm

46^th Annual Norris Day July 4^th Celebration – July 4

Location:  Norris Commons – 1 Norris Square, Norris, TN

Running enthusiasts can begin the day with the Firecracker Road Run and later the children’s Dob Show will be held on the Norris Commons, followed by the one-mile Fun Run. Don’t miss the children’s Wheel Race, the Bicycle Parade, the Water Balloon Toss or the Water-Ball Battles.  There will be sack races and duck races too!  One of the highlights is the wonderful barbeque dinner in the Norris Middle School cafeteria from 11:00am until 2:00pm.  Tickets for the dinners will be on sale in front of the Norris Post Office, at Hensley’s and at Archers prior to July 4^th and in the cafeteria the day of the event.  Many of our community organizations will have booths on the Norris Commons and on the grounds of the Norris Middle School.  The day will conclude with a fireworks display on the Norris Commons!
