Robert “Bobby” Curtis Mashburn, age 67, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, April 22, at Briarcliff Health Care Center, after a lengthy battle with his second bout of cancer.

He was born September 16, 1946, in Asheville, North Carolina, the son of Mary Ola Gunter and Curtis Frank Mashburn.

Bobby was a 1965 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Following high school, he joined the Tennessee National Guard, where he served for nine years. He retired from the Y-12 plant at BWXT, where he was a production management specialist.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge #1684, the Oak Ridge Sportsman’s Association, the Oak Ridge Country Club, and the National Rifle Association. Bobby was an avid University of Tennessee Vols football fan and was just as passionate about playing golf and fishing. In his early years, he was a football coach for the Oak Ridge Boys Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and by his father-in-law, Norman Snow.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Snow Mashburn; brother, William J. Mashburn; sisters, Patricia Ann Asquith and husband Donald, and Mickie T. Mashburn, all of Oak Ridge; mother-in-law, Maryetta “Midge” Snow of Oak Ridge; nieces and nephew, Leslie Asquith Minor of Knoxville, Scott Asquith and wife Elena of Oak Ridge, and Jackie Mashburn of Dayton, Ohio; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great niece.

Family and friends will meet on Friday, April 25, for a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Dr. Steve McDonald will officiate.

Military honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Thompson Cancer Center, especially to the ladies in the Infusion Center and to the awesome nursing staff in wing 200 of the Briarcliff Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the American Cancer Society.

Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. An online guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
