Mildred “Gurene” Monday

Mildred “Gurene” Monday, age 75, of Oak Ridge, departed this life Monday, June 25, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Mrs. Monday was co-owner of Elza Gate Body Shop with her husband, Gary. Gurene was the smile behind the desk for so many years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Greg McNeese, and her parents, Horace and Mary Allen of Jean, Texas.

Mrs. Monday is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Gary Monday; sister, Lela Shepherd of Boyd, Texas; brother, Don Allen and wife Mary of Helena, Mont.; children, Sharon McNeese-Hamilton and husband Brant of Arkansas, Michael McNeese and wife Gabby of Houston, Texas, Matthew Monday and wife Hassie of Oak Ridge; numerous nieces and nephews; her extended family at Elza Gate Body Shop; and her many special friends at the Oak Ridge Elks Lodge #1684.

A friend to everyone she met, Gurene will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, with Pastor Matt Reed of Faith Baptist Church of Oak Ridge officiating. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

The family asks that memorials be made to the Elks Lodge #1684, 684 Emory Valley Road.
