Obituary: Mary Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Collins

Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Collins, age 84, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee went to Heaven to be with her Lord on April 14, 2014.

She was born in Hermitage, Tenn., on Feb. 20, 1930 to parents John and Gracie McNelley.

She was head of housekeeping at NHC, Oak Ridge, from its opening in 1978 until 1988, when she resigned to care for her husband until his death in 1991. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Ernie” Collins, and daughter-in-law, Angela Collins.

Liz is survived by her three sons, Randall Collins, Larry Collins and wife Norma, and Dennis Collins and wife Janice; grandchildren, April (Chris) Caywood, Kevin Collins, Kristin (Travis) Choate, Brandon (Tamara) Collins, Angie Collins, and Jazmine Collins; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Hunter, and Autumn Caywood, Heidi Choate, Tyler and Annabelle Collins, and Camden Collins; brother, John McNelley Jr. of Scottsboro, Ala.; sister-in-law, Virginia Collins of Oak Ridge; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Wednesday, April 16, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, with the funeral service following at 7:30 p.m., with Dr. Steve McDonald officiating. The graveside service was held Thursday at 9 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. An online guest book may be signed at weatherfordmortuary.com.
