A “Double Feature” concert on Saturday will include favorite movie themes played by the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra.
It’s the orchestra’s final performance of the season, and it will feature conductor Dan Allcott directing music themes from “Gone with the Wind,” “Star Trek,” “007,” and much more, a press release said. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center.
The orchestra’s Pop’s Concert is presented by the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.
The concert will be preceded by a fundraising dinner that will benefit the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Concert series, the Oak Ridge Chorus, education outreach by ORCMA, and the Coffee Concerts. The dinner is sponsored by ORCMA, and it starts at 5:30 p.m. at the ORHS Performing Arts Center.
The cost for the pre-concert dinner is $50 per person. It is being catered by Caramella Catering. Dinner items include Greek-style grilled chicken with olives and wine sauce, smoked pork loin and baked apples, roasted potatoes, zucchini and squash (a vegetarian option), garden salads, fresh breads, and desserts. For reservations, call Connie Smith at (865) 482-9482 or call the ORCMA office at (865) 483-5569.
The concert will be highlighted by movie themes from composer and conductor John Williams, including themes from “Schindler’s List,” “Star Wars Medley,” and “Raiders March” from “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Williams received five Academy Awards for his work and is one of the most acclaimed American composers alive today, the press release said.
Also featured Saturday will be Henry Mancini’s music from “The Pink Panther” and “Tara” from “Gone with the Wind” by Max Steiner.
“Bond,” James Bond’s theme will also resonate with the audience, the press release said. It was composed by John Barry, who also won five Academy Awards for “Born Free” and “Out of Africa,” among others.
Tickets for Saturday’s concert are $25 for adults, $10 for students and young adults, and $5 for youth. They are available by calling the ORCMA office at (865) 483-5569 or for sale at the door.
