State authorities are investigating a midnight joyride by two Stardust Marina employees who wrecked a tenant’s personal watercraft on Norris Lake this past weekend, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.
The workers allegedly took a watercraft belonging to one of the marina’s tenants and crashed it into a floating sign anchored along the marina harbor’s “no wake” line, WYSH reported.
One of the men was thrown from the craft and landed on the sign, knocking him out and sending him to the hospital with a head injury. The other man was not injured.
Neither of them was wearing a lifejacket, WYSH said, citing the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, which also reported that the watercraft was severely damaged in the crash.
The names of the suspects have not been released.
TWRA officials believe that alcohol and speed played roles in the accident and met with the district attorney general’s office on Monday to discuss possible criminal and boating charges, WYSH said. State law prohibits the use of personal watercraft between sunset and sunrise and requires everyone on board to wear a flotation device.
