The managing attorney for the Southern Environmental Law Center will discuss fracking in the Cumberland Forest, mountaintop removal, and other issues during a Tuesday lunch meeting.
Anne Davis of SELC will be the guest speaker at Lunch with the League at noon Tuesday. Her talk is titled “Southern Environmental Law Center: Tennessee Projects.â€Â The meeting is in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
The Southern Environmental Law Center has been the leading champion of the South’s air, water, and special places for almost three decades, a press release said.
SELC’s Nashville office brings the expertise, power, and resources of this regional organization to the service of Tennessee, the press release said.
“Their law and policy expertise complements the efforts of local partner groups—and strengthens the overall environmental community in our state,” it said. “Clean energy and healthy air, clean water, and the related issues of transportation reform and land-use are top priorities. Ms. Davis will discuss environmental issues such as fracking in the Cumberland Forest, mountaintop removal, and Corridor K that impact Oak Ridge and surrounding counties and communities.”
Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, Lunch with the League is open to the public. There is no cost to attend, and reservations are not needed. Box lunches will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis for $8, or you may bring your own. Coffee and tea are provided.
