Charles A. Gifford

Charles A. Gifford

Charles A. “Charlie” Gifford, age 94, of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, March 22, at his home.

He was a World War II veteran, serving our country in the U.S. Army. He earned the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars and was a sharp shooter during the war. Later he worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he retired after 30-plus years of service.

He loved working in his yard, traveling, and camping. He was an avid University of Tennessee fan and especially enjoyed watching the Lady Vols. He loved his special companion, his dog “Jack.” A kind and caring man, Charlie quietly helped anyone in need and was loved by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie (Keith) Gifford, and his loving and deeply loved wife, Anne Gifford.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Gifford and special friend Karen Smith of Oliver Springs; son, John Gifford and wife Carolyn, of Oak Ridge; loving brother, Leon Gifford and wife Velma, of Trenton, Ga.; granddaughter, Nicole Gifford;
nephew, John M. Tribble of Chattanooga; and a host of other family members, neighbors, and friends.

The family would like to offer a very special thanks to the PCM nurses for not only caring for Dad in a very professional manner, but also for caring for him from their hearts! They were a very special team, and Dad loved them in return.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 25, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Beech Park Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. with Bro. Robbie Leach officiating. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

Jackson Funeral Services in Oliver Springs is honored to serve the Gifford family. We invite you to share your thoughts and memories with the family at www.jacksonfuneralservices.com.
