Eleanor Hanks Redmond

Eleaner “Jew Baby” Hanks Redmond, age 87, a long-time Oak Ridger and a resident of Greenfield Senior Living of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, March 18, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Sweetwater, the daughter of Felix Prater and Mary Louise Hanks Winton.

Mrs. Redmond retired from Lockheed Martin Energy Systems in 1990, where she was an E.D.P. Specialist.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing plants, indoor and outdoor, as well as cooking, reading, and working crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert Redmond; sister, Inez W. Jones; and her loving aunt, Alice Ferguson, who raised her and her sister Inez after the death of their mother.

She is survived by nieces, Cynthia D. Santos and husband Duane, and Shannon Thompson, all of San Diego, Calif., and Tiffanie Nelson and Diavanni A. Taylor, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; cousins, Joanne Fike, Juanita Johnkins and husband John, Mary Brownlee, and James Ferguson, all of Sweetwater, and William Ferguson of Nashville; stepson, Robert Redmond Jr. and wife Ruby of Goodman, Miss.; step-grandson, Anthony Scales of Oak Ridge; and her very dear and loving friend and caregiver, Mary Hill of Oak Ridge.

The family received friends on Monday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral began at 12 p.m. with Elder T. L. Mims officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
