Laura Faye Strange

On March 6, Laura Faye Strange departed this life at her home in Dandridge. She was born May 12, 1948, in Knoxville to the late Fate and Reva Hucklebee.

Laura grew up in Knoxville and attended Rule High School. She was a loving, friendly woman who never met a stranger. She spent her life caring for her family and friends and often worked as a personal care giver. She owned a housecleaning business for many years and with her former husband operated Volunteer Motors on Chapman Highway for more than 20 years.

Laura enjoyed watching sports, especially University of Tennessee football, and spending time with family. Laura was a breast cancer survivor and proudly wore pink in celebration.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Earnest Hucklebee, and her daughter Teresa Anne Ownby Underwood.

She is survived by her son, James Ownby (Greta) of Oak Ridge, and sisters Donna Macklin Wilson, Janet Noe, and Bea Drinnen, all of Knoxville; son-in-law Michael Underwood of Dandridge; sister-in-law Jennifer Hucklebee of Knoxville; and former husband George Strange of Kingston. In addition, she is survived by her grandsons, who she dearly loved, Jason and Tyler Underwood of Dandridge, Jay Ownby of Maryville, and Jacob Ownby of Oak Ridge; and great-grandson Nate Ownby of Maryville. Laura is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will cherish her memory.

On Tuesday, March 11, family and friends will gather from 1 to 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Oak Ridge, with the funeral to follow at 3 p.m. with Paul Ownby presiding. If preferred, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laura’s name to the donor’s charity of choice or to the American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909 or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 9051 Executive Park Drive, Knoxville, TN 37923.
