Oak Ridge Altrusa has its annual International Day luncheon on Wednesday at the Double Tree Hotel in Oak Ridge.
The featured speaker will be Waldek Kaczocha. His presentation topic is “Living in Communist Poland and Coming to America.”
Kaczocha is well-known in the Oak Ridge community as one of the proprietors (together with his wife, Ilona) of Razzleberry’s Restaurant in Jackson Square.
He emigrated to the United States shortly after he graduated from culinary school in Krakow, Poland. When he left Poland, the country was still under communist control. He and Ilona and their three children have been in Oak Ridge since 2006, when they moved here from Florida. They had operated a Razzleberry’s ice cream parlor in Florida for 12 years. Their Oak Ridge Razzleberry’s business started as a small shop selling homemade ice cream and has steadily grown to become a full-scale restaurant and international deli—while still selling that homemade ice cream.
Altrusa has arranged for some Polish food and décor to go along with Kaczocha’s comments about his experiences in Poland and as a new arrival in the United States. Altrusa’s press release says: “If you’ve met Waldek, you know how entertaining he can be. Come hear what he has to say!”
The meeting starts with a lunch at 11:45 a.m., followed by a short business meeting and then the program. Visitors with a reservation are welcome to attend. Guests may request a reservation by sending an email to [email protected] by Monday, March 10. The lunch costs $13.
