Wealth management adviser to discuss women, money with Altrusa Club

An independent wealth management adviser will discuss women and money during a Wednesday meeting of the Altrusa Club of Oak Ridge.

The presentation by Aleen “Ali” Swofford is titled “Women and Money—Taking Charge of Your Financial Future.”

The meeting will take place at the Oak Ridge Utility District office conference facility at 120 S. Jefferson Circle.

“Women often face unique financial challenges that their male counterparts don’t,” Swofford said in a press release. “They have longer life expectancies, and may have less income and therefore reduced savings as they head into retirement. Women are also more likely to take a career break at some point to be a caretaker, and we tend to invest too conservatively.”

Swofford will present strategies and advise the audience on ways to gain control over their money and to become more knowledgeable investors. She will also share tips on ways to successfully advocate on your behalf in the workplace.

President of Swofford Financial, Swofford has 29 years of planning, investment, and wealth management experience, and she has led hundreds of families through the process of preparing for and transitioning into retirement, the press release said.

Swofford is currently a columnist with “Everything Knoxville,” and she appears on PBS television providing financial tips and is a frequent lecturer on Cunard, Crystal, and Radisson Diamond cruises. “Succeeding in Spite of Everything,” her first book, achieved Amazon bestseller status in multiple categories.

A chartered life underwriter and chartered financial consultant, Swofford has a bachelor’s degree from Oregon State, a master’s degree and a doctorate from the University of Southern California, the press release said. Before becoming a financial wealth adviser, she was a business owner for seven years, and the former director of the University of Nebraska Women’s athletic program.

Altrusa International is a service organization comprised of community members focusing on leadership, partnership, and service with an emphasis on literacy and education.

The Wednesday meeting starts with a lunch buffet at 11:45 a.m., followed by a short business meeting and then the program by Swofford. Visitors with a reservation are welcome to attend.
