Glenwood L. Davis, 94, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at NHC Health Care Center.

He was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Lebanon, Ky., the son of Frank M. Davis and Viola Hundley Davis.

He had lived in Oak Ridge for 68 years and was a former member of United Church Chapel on the Hill and First Christian Church.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army Enlisted Reserve from 1939-1942, the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1940-1942, and the United States Navy from 1942–1945.

He was a member of the Oak Ridge Sportsman’s Association from the1960s through 2006 and enjoyed participation in high power rifle and smallbore pistol competition at ORSA NRA Sharpshooter “9bar” award.

He also enjoyed photography and painting in oils. He was an avid reader and amassed a considerable library of volumes on history, science, and the arts.

Mr. Davis worked as scheduling and purchasing manager with American Industrial Transit from 1945-1957 and worked for Union Carbide, Martin Marietta, Lockwood Green Engineers for 35 years from 1957-1992.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy C. Davis, Oak Ridge; son, Clay M. Davis and wife Samantha M. Davis of Los Alamos, N.M.; grandson, Robert Glen Davis of Gallatin, Tenn.; and great-granddaughter, Aislinn Shea Davis of Gallatin.

The family asks that any memorials be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family received friends Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 12-1 p.m. in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral followed at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Randy Hammer officiating. Military honors were provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard. Private interment was in Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
