Dayton C. King Sr., 89, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Dec. 2, 2013.
He was born to parents Carl Joseph and Loucreta Maples King on Jan. 31, 1924, in Maryville.
Dayton retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a chemical operator. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating with the Agape Center, and he enjoyed working in his yard.
He was preceded in death by wife of 61 years, Edith Catherine King, on Aug. 21, 2006.Â
Dayton is survived by his children, Dayton King, Jr. (Cheryl) of Albuquerque, N.M., and their children Michelle and Mike; Don King (Sandy) of Benton, Tenn., and their children Chad, Lisa, and Dannette; Diane Williams and children Kathy and John; Doug King (Shelba) of Oak Ridge and their children Mary Jo and Christy; sister, Rainelle Huskey of Knoxville; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Dr. Dayton King Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. An online guest book may be signed at weatherfordmortuary.com.
