Mary L. Berryman, age 94, formerly of Kingsport, Tenn., and Blowing Rock, N.C., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the Courtyards of Briarcliff in Oak Ridge.
Born Oct. 23, 1919, in Burnsville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Maude W. Lyon and John Proctor Lyon.
She graduated from Queens College, Charlotte, N.C., in 1941 with a bachelor’s degree in history and married Clarence H. Berryman Jr. in June of 1941. Mr. Berryman passed away in 1999 after a loving marriage to Mary of 58 years.
Mrs. Berryman is survived by three daughters, Mary B. Hendrick of Lynchburg, Va., Kathy B. Shaulis of Oak Ridge, Margie B. Dyer and her husband Jim, of Knoxville; and one son, Clarence H. Berryman III and his wife, Mary, of Lakeland, Fla.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Courtyards Senior Living for the outstanding care and compassion Mrs. Berryman received while she was a resident.
The family received friends on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 4:30–6 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge.
Family and friends met for a graveside service on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock, N.C., with Rev. Rusty Guenther officiating. Hampton Funeral Home of Boone, N.C., served the family.
