B&W Y-12 recently announced it has donated $1,250 to local libraries, raised more than $20,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and volunteered more than 10,000 hours of service at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

B&W Y-12 supports local libraries
Libraries in four local towns are benefitting from $1,250 donations from B&W Y-12.
The Clinton Public Library, the Briceville Public Library, the Wartburg Public Library, and the Betty Anne Jolly Norris Area Community Library received the corporate donations during the past few months.
“Your unrestricted gift allows the Friends Group to assist the Norris Community Library in their work for the good of the community,” said Friends of the Library’s Becky Jolly. The Norris library, which also services the communities of Andersonville, Fairview, and Glen Alpine, will use the donation to purchase reading materials, supplies and equipment.
Y-12 team raises more than $20,000 for Light the Night event
More than 86 Y‑12 employees and family members participated at this year’s Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night walk held Oct. 24 at the University of Tennessee. The B&W Y‑12 team, recognized as the largest corporate team at the event, raised more than $20,000. Participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk funds therapies and treatment advances for blood cancer patients.
Y-12 employees have been recognized for volunteering more than 10,000 hours of service to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Y-12’s Help the Smokies team recognized for tradition of service
Y-12 is in an elite group. Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials recently recognized Y-12 employees for volunteering more than 10,000 hours of service to the park. Y-12 is one of only 11 individuals or groups to receive the recognition. A plaque honoring Y-12’s stewardship will be on permanent display at park headquarters near the Sugarlands Visitor Center just outside Gatlinburg.
Since 1996, hundreds of Y-12 employees and their friends and family have lent a hand to Y-12’s Help the Smokies team to improve picnic areas and campsites, including making sites more accessible to those with disabilities. Improvements include constructing a shelter and greenhouse, installing tent pads and replacing tables, grills and fire rings.
The team’s latest honor is one of several National Park Service awards Y-12 has received over the years for its volunteer work in the park. In 2008, the Y-12 Help the Smokies team received a prestigious Department of the Interior Take Pride in America National Award.
