Jimmie Ray Fleming, age 79, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Mr. Fleming was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Clintwood, Va. He has lived in Oliver Springs since 1996.
Before his retirement, he was employed as a HVAC technician for several years in the Washington, D.C., area.
Mr. Fleming is a veteran of the United States Air Force and he served his country during the Korean War.
He was a beekeeper, and a man with a green thumb who enjoyed gardening, and he operated a roadside plant and vegetable stand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Seldon and Elsie May Hill Fleming; by sisters, Phyllis Bobbit, Annette Dameron, and Jane Fleming; and by brothers, Jason and Shirley Fleming.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Noma Copas Fleming of Oliver Springs; by a daughter, Lenora Fleming of Oliver Springs; by sons, Justin Fleming of Oliver Springs, Donnie Fleming and wife Barbara of Fredericksburg, Va., Rickie Fleming and wife Tina of Alabama, Timmie Fleming and wife Loretta of Fredericksburg, Va., and Frank Fleming and wife Stephanie of Charlotte, N.C.; and by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by brothers, Darrell Fleming and wife Nancy of Clintwood, Va., Johnny Fleming of Woodbridge, Va., and Kyle Fleming and wife Linda of Clarksville, Md.; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 2, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Shannon Walls officiating.
