Marjorie Emory Alcorn

Marjorie Emory Alcorn, age 90, a resident of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at home.

Marjorie was born on Jan. 15, 1923, in Coalfield. She lived in Oliver Springs until her move to Loudon in 1990. She has lived in Knoxville since 2001.

Before her retirement, she was employed as a cashier/clerk at several area grocery stores. Marjorie enjoyed music, reading, cooking, sewing, Braves baseball, and watching her children play softball.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother and she attended the Loudon Church of God.

Mrs. Alcorn was preceded in death by her parents, Noah Emory and Mellie Oody Emory; by her husband, Earl Alcorn; by a son, Frank E. “Sonny” Alcorn; by brothers, William Emory, Robert Emory, and James Emory; and by sisters, Edith McCord and Juanita Lowe.

She is survived by her children, Mary Elizabeth “Pat” Postlethwait and husband Lowell of Port Orange, Fla., Wallace Chadwick and wife Linda of Oliver Springs, James “Jim” Alcorn and wife Marjorie of Clinton, Madeline Alcorn, and Marian Surrett and husband David of Loudon.

Marjorie is also survived by 12 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to caregivers, especially Naomi Bruce, Carolyn Moore, and Linda Thomas. They would also like to thank Smokey Mountain Hospice and the Intrepid Nursing Staff for the care given to their mother during her illness.

The family received friends Sunday, Oct. 27, between 4 and 6 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
