The Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge will have an open house and ribbon cutting celebration at its new location next week.
The clinic has moved to an expanded location at 116 East Division Road in Oak Ridge (immediately behind Zaxby’s restaurant).
The open house will be from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m.
Before moving to the new location in mid-October, FMCOR was housed in the Trinity Center on Robertsville Road. The larger facility will help to meet the ever increasing requests for care, a press release said. Since opening in January 2010, more than 3,000 patients have been served in nearly 13,000 visits.
“The community really came together to help us move,†FMCOR Executive Director Teresa Brittain said. “Thanks to the outstanding support and volunteer efforts, the clinic was closed only two days for the move. Among the groups and individuals who worked especially hard to renovate the new space and make the move happen are the ‘Doctors of Drywall’ and the CC&O Committee of First Presbyterian Church, Rotary Club of Oak Ridge Sunset, Boy Scout Troop 42, Downtown Hardware, Jim Hardy, Bill Henry, Bob Burseth, Jerry Hadlock, Oved Delao, Annie and Ernie Burress, Gene Dunaway, and many dedicated Free Medical Clinic staff and volunteers.”
The Free Medical Clinic is a community-supported organization, dedicated to providing primary health care services to the low-income uninsured residents of Anderson, Morgan, and Roane Counties. The clinic is open Monday-Friday, and currently serves about 125 patients each week.
