An annual golf tournament for the United Way of Anderson County raised close to $19,000 this month, officials said Monday.

The tournament was Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Oak Ridge Country Club.

“We are so pleased to have raised nearly $19,000 through this year’s tournament,” said David Wilson, tournament chairman. “We had 16 teams come out and enjoy great weather and great golf!”

The registration fees included lunch and dinner, green fees, snacks, and beverages. Each player received a gift sponsored by Ben’s Home Centers and Brett Jaffrey. There were also hole-in-one prizes including $5,000 cash, a new car, a Pebble Beach vacation, and a $1,000 gift certificate to Peter’s Jewelers. However, no one took home a hole-in-one prize this year.

“After postponing our tournament in May due to low sponsor response, we are so proud of the way this community rallied to make this event a success,” said Jennifer Pettyjohn, UWAC resource development director.

This year’s first place team was Shane Peters, Jason Hembree, Allan Grigsby, and Rick Cornell. In second place were Allen Schubert, Scott Anderson, Pat Timbes, and Bryan Kendrick. In third place were Gary Mullins, Tim Mullins, Jay Mullins, and Casey McClure. Closest to the pin was awarded to Stan Stines, Jason Hembree, Sam Jones, and Brett Jaffrey. There was a putting tie between Pat Timbes and Larry Garner.

UWAC and its 34 community partners and their 51 vital programs address three core needs of our community: basic human needs, youth development, and the needs of seniors. For more information, call (865) 483-8431 or visit www.unitedwayandersoncounty.org.
