A longtime pizza restaurant and a newer “farm-to-table” diner have closed in Oak Ridge.
A sign posted on the front door of the former Gatti’s Pizza earlier this month said the business has been sold.
Meanwhile, the owners of The Market House at Jackson Square posted on their Facebook page on Oct. 14 that they will no longer be open but will continue to fulfill any private party obligations.
Oak Ridge Today has not been able to reach the owners of either business to elaborate.
Anderson County property records show the Gatti’s Pizza property has been owned by Rolu Inc. of Oliver Springs since 1996. Roger Blanton of Oliver Springs is the company’s registered agent, but he has not been available for comment.
A telephone number on the sign in front of the restaurant now directs a caller to Cappiello Real Estate, but Tony Cappiello has not been available for comment either. The restaurant is near busy Oak Ridge Turnpike and Rutgers avenues, and also next door to the Oak Ridge Mall, where an $85 million redevelopment has been proposed.
The Market House is newer; it opened in May 2012. Owners Bo Shipley and Dan Tremaine said they used, as often as possible, food and beverage products purchased from local farmers, bakers, and brewers.
It is one of several restaurants that have followed the former Bleu Hound Grille at that location at the corner of East Tennessee and Central avenues, on the south side of Jackson Square. The Market House had a loyal following but had recently stopped serving lunches and replaced them with a Sunday brunch.
Cindy McCullough says
Wow, I am surprised the Market House closed. We almost went there the other day for my husband’s birthday. Darn, we liked the Market House.

Seventy four eating places in town. The pie pieces are getting smaller. The economy is getting worse. The paper is full of forclosures every day.
Restaurants are being recruited by OR. There is not a single place in town where one must wait for a table today.

I won’t be eating at Dean’s again after he showed his political leanings as Company policy. Make it 73 eating places.

I did too, both the food and the concept. The owners as well. I’ve asked Bo and Dan if they have plans for any future restaurants, but I haven’t heard back yet. I’ll let you know if I do.
