Helen Maxwell Duncan

Helen Maxwell Duncan, age 78, of Oliver Springs, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her residence.

Helen loved gospel music, going to church, and attending Caring Heart Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Helen enjoyed planting flowers, walking, watching wildlife, and feeding the birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Nellie Maxwell; husband, Johnnie Clifton Duncan; and grandsons, Elija West and Thomas Tupper.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Mary Burgess and husband Kenny of Oliver Springs, and Barbara West and husband Archie of Clinton; 14 brothers and five sisters; grandchildren, Patricia Byrge, James Tupper Jr., Chandra Miller, Xavier Miller, Whitney Newlon and husband Eric, Vanita Earley and husband Shawn, and Sierra West; great-grandchildren, Drew Newlon, Mason Newlon, Jasmine Earley, Roy Earley, and Jazmeria Alexander; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Helen’s family received her friends on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 6–8 p.m., and her funeral service followed at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Mortuary with Rev. David Keathley and Rev. Bill Wheat officiating.

Helen’s interment was Thursday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery in Oliver Springs.
