Maynard Fuller (Buck) Grant Jr.

Maynard Fuller (Buck) Grant Jr., 79, died Sunday, June 9, after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Catherine Loveday Grant.

He is also survived by his children, Maynard F. Grant III of Oak Ridge, Bishop Edgar Grant of Oak Ridge, Reed (Lisa) Grant of Kaysville, Utah, Janine Brewer (Danny), of Clinton, and Jared Grant (Alicia) of Karns.

He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Kelly Kilbey, Trevor Grant, Corinne Grant, Nicole Grant, Molly Brewer, Ryan Grant, Jonathan Grant, and one great-grandchild, Michael Kilbey.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents Maynard Fuller and Inez (Phillips) Grant; his sister, Nancy Grant; and grandson, Andrew Grant.

Buck came to Oak Ridge in 1949 and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1952. He lettered in track and football. He was always proud to be an Oak Ridge Wildcat. He coached football, basketball, and baseball at Oak Ridge Boys Club and in church leagues for many years. He loved being involved in sports and lives of many kids as a coach and mentor.

In 1953, Buck went to work for Union Carbide at K-25 in the Utilities Department, retiring in 1994.

In 1953, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions of responsibility and capacities. We want to thank his church “family” for their many hours of support and prayers these past few months.

Buck was always proud of and full of love for his family. His greatest joy was spending time with them and telling tall tales about his youth and sharing many hours of laughter.

We are thankful for the treasure he has left us of his life and legacy. He has passed on a deep sense of loyalty, work ethic, the importance of family and laughter, but mostly a compassion for our fellowman. He was especially tender-hearted and loving and will be missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit at Methodist Medical Center for the kind, loving care given to him.

The family will receive friends at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 140 S. Jefferson Circle in Oak Ridge.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m.

Following the funeral service, the burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
