Winifred Biddle Gibbons, age 87, of Oak Ridge, went to be with her Lord, June 12.

She was born February 28, 1925, one of 13 children born to the Rev. Jerry and Nancy Biddle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Richard Gibbons, and daughter Joyce Winifred Gibbons.

She and her husband Richard came to Oak Ridge in 1944. Mrs. Gibbons worked as a lab technician for Union Carbide Corporation and then continued her employment at the City of Oak Ridge, where she retired.

Her passion was serving the Lord, serving and helping others in any way she could, singing in church, and teaching Sunday school. She was a faithful member of the Oak Ridge Wesleyan Church where she was very involved.

She was also involved and active in community affairs.

Mrs. Gibbons was known for her great home-style country cooking. She was the Matriarch of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Woods and husband Charles; sons, Paul Gibbons and wife Wynema, and Jerry Gibbons and special friend, Brenda Davis; sisters, Cora Horner and Virginia Odom; grandchildren, Urshula Woods Massengale and husband Eddie, Charleston Woods and wife Natasha, Jacob Gibbons and wife Jennifer, Caleb Gibbons and wife Ashley; great-grandchildren, Samantha Massengale Lloyd and husband Adam, Sierra Lois Winifred Bunch and husband Derek, Destiney and Austinn Massengale, Madison, Carter and Evelyne Gibbons and Gage Woods; and great-great-granddaughter, Callie Lois Winifred Bunch.

The family offers a special thanks to her caregivers and friends, Crystal Justice, Derek Currier, Betty Bunch, Shania Snow, and Brian Bunch.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Weatherford Mortuary.

The funeral will follow at 6:30pm with Brother Arthur Bragg officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
