Dorothy Alene Conrad, age 85, a resident of the Life Care Center of Morgan County, went home to be with the Lord and family on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013.
Mrs. Conrad was born on Sept. 4, 1927, in Morgan County. She lived throughout her life in Coalfield, Oliver Springs, and Middletown, Ohio.
She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed pampering her family and those who came through her door. She was a gracious hostess and cook, and the holidays were always a special time because she cherished visits from all.
While living in Middletown, Ohio she attended the Grace Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Bates and Annie Mae Luttrell Bates; by husbands, Austin Seiber and Clem Conrad; by a grandson, Justin Conrad; by brothers, John Wesley Bates Jr., Leslie Bates, Milford Bates, and L.C. Bates; and by a sister, Thelma Faye Bates.
Mrs. Conrad is survived by eight children, Gene Seiber and wife Roxie of Coalfield, Darlene Upchurch and husband Jerry of Coalfield, Judy Regas of Knoxville, Carolyn Monkus and husband Jerry of Knoxville, Stevie Seiber and wife Patty of Coalfield, Susan Conrad of Knoxville, Randy Conrad and wife Lisa of Creedmoor, N.C., and James Conrad and wife Amy of Knoxville; and by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister, Louise Brock and husband Richard of Coalfield; by a son-in-law, David White; by four stepchildren; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends.
The family received friends Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brett Palotta officiating.
Burial and graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Oliver Springs Cemetery.
