Bill Tindal has been named B&W Y-12 vice president for production, effective July 26. He is replacing Joel Duling, who has accepted a position at Nuclear Fuel Services, a subsidiary of Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group Inc., in Erwin, Tenn.
“Bill is uniquely suited for this role given his production expertise and years of experience,” said B&W Y-12 President and General Manager Chuck Spencer. “Joel has done a great job for Y-12, and we are excited for him and wish him well in his new opportunity.”
Tindal has more than 18 years of experience at Y-12, most recently serving as deputy manager of production since 2011. He has served as manager of several production departments throughout his Y-12 career. As Y-12 production facilities department manager, he created and implemented a risk-reduction model for operations that is considered a benchmark for other sites. Tindal also had a significant role in the startup of the Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility, or HEUMF, coordinating multiple departments within production to maintain schedules during transition to the new facility. He has also served as the enriched uranium production manager, where he brought all purification processes in Building 9212 into a fully operational state.
Prior to Y-12, Tindal worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, supervising engineers in testing of new naval reactor plants. He earned a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from Penn State and a master’s degree in engineering management from the University of Tennessee.
As vice president of production, Tindal will report to Dave Richardson, deputy general manager and senior vice president for operations.
