Kingston cancels parade tonight, considers canceling more July 4 events

Kingston has canceled the July 4 parade scheduled for 7 p.m. today, the city announced on its website.

Officials will meet at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 4, to determine whether to cancel more Independence Day events.

Forecasts that call for heavy rain between tonight (Wednesday night) and Thursday have already led many cities in East Tennessee to reschedule their fireworks shows, including in Oak Ridge, Clinton, Lake City, and Norris.

A schedule of the Kingston events, part of the city’s annual Smokin’ the Water celebration, is available on the city’s website at http://www.mykingstontn.com.
