The Oak Ridge Fire Department held a ceremony on June 11 to welcome two new members.
The event was held at Fire Station No. 3, and firefighter trainees Courtney McCarter and Joe Brackins were sworn in as the two newest members of the fire department. Both firefighters began their service for the department on April 22 and have already completed multiple training sessions, a press release said.
McCarter comes to the Oak Ridge Fire Department from the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, where he has served for seven years and is presently the assistant fire chief. McCarter is a certified firefighter through the Tennessee Commission on Fire Fighting and is a licensed EMT. McCarter has been assigned to Fire Station No. 3 on A shift.
Brackins comes to the Oak Ridge Fire Department from the Pigeon Forge Fire Department, where he has served for 11 years. Brackins is a certified firefighter through the Tennessee Commission on Fire Fighting and is a licensed EMT. Brackins has been assigned to Fire Station No. 1 on C shift.
Oak Ridge Fire Department Chief Darryl Kerley said: “We continue to look to recruit and hire the best possible people for the department when positions come open so that we can continue to provide the highest quality of service that the citizens of Oak Ridge deserve from their fire department. Both of these men have extensive training records and are experienced firefighters who will help the fire department continue forward with its mission of providing the best service possible to the citizens.â€
