A Roane County man is accused of shooting his stepson in the leg with a shotgun during a family dispute Thursday night, the Roane County Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting occurred at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday at 178 Maddox Hollow Road, which is south of Kingston between Watts Bar Lake and Interstate 75.
Witnesses said John W. Williams 55 , of Philadelphia, shot his stepson Dustin L. Rogers, 26, with a single-barrel 20-gauge shotgun with a slug round after an argument over a boat battery, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Rogers left the scene before Deputy Stan Hohulin arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said. A statement last week said Williams was taken to Roane Medical Center for minor injuries and later booked into the Roane County Jail on one count of aggravated assault, with domestic violence.
A press release this week said the deputy talked to Rogers by phone and tried to convince him to seek medical attention.
“He stated the slug entered and exited his upper thigh, but he would not press charges and may not seek medical attention,” the release said.
At the time of the report, Williams’ bond had not been set, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Williams has a court date scheduled for 9 a.m. July 15.
