Geraldine J. Jenkins

Geraldine J. Jenkins, age 81, a resident of Harriman, passed away Thursday, June 13, at Tennova Residential Hospice in Knoxville.

Mrs. Jenkins was born Feb. 14, 1932, in the Fork mountain Community of Anderson County. Following her Lake City high school graduation in 1950, she moved to Harriman, where she has continued to live.

She began her employment in 1950 with Bell Telephone as a telephone operator, and she continued employment with the phone company until her retirement in 1984.

She attended Childs Memorial Baptist Church, and she was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Her hobbies included needlework and making crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ridley Casel Jones and Ernie Kennedy Jones; by her husband, Roy E. Jenkins, the former Harriman police chief; by sisters, Christine Brummett and Wanda Duncan; and by brothers, Ray and Leon Jones.

Mrs. Jenkins is survived by a brother, David Jones of Oliver Springs; and by seven sisters, Janice Hatcher of Dayton, Ohio, Mary Rose Melenovsky, of Harriman, Juanita Miller and husband Fred, of Clarksville, Ohio, Patricia Massengill of Columbus, Ohio, Treatha Vann of Oliver Springs, Donna Melonovsky and husband Carl, of Harriman, and Sheila Ledford of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.

She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends, including a very special fiend, Edna Cox.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 15, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Carl Armes officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Sunday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at the Patterson Cemetery in the Fork Mountain Community in Devonia.
